Weekend of the Masters & Thanks

Point Lobos 8" x 12"
Oil on Mounted Linen - $2700 SOLD
Dear Friends,
For all of you who took the time to respond to my open letter to artists - Thank You (the letter is reprinted on my home page). I am glad the thoughts expressed touched a responsive chord.
I have just returned from teaching at the Weekend of the Masters in Carmel, CA and am completely spent: between staying up late, talking shop with new and old friends, lecturing, demo-ing and teaching I was worn to a nub.
What an amazing opportunity to see and meet so many artists who have awed me over the years.
I still can't believe that I get to do this for a living.
- Joe Paquet

New Work
Aggregate Yard in White Light 28" x 40"
Oil on Mounted Linen - $18,000
The above work was painted largely from life this summer in an area along the Mississippi, not far from my studio known as "Pig's Eye" named for a colorful 19th century Character who lived along the river.
The bleached white light and harmonious color with a shock of blue sky punctuated by small bits of red and yellow totally sent me. The challenges of dust, dirt and the rumbling of massive dump trucks passing within a few feet away was thoroughly unnerving.
It's the price we pay in trying to capture the DNA of a place.
Upcoming Shows
Hope for Spring 18" x 28"
Oil on Mounted Linen - $11,000
Allure of Water: Plein Air Painters of America 23rd Exhibit & Sale at the Haggin Museum, Stockton CA
October 15th through January 22nd 2012
Once again the Haggin Museum will graciously and elegantly represent this PAPA group exhibit. It is always a wonder for me to view so much fine painting from many of the nations finest outdoor artists. I will have two paintings including the one pictured above.

This is the first international exhibit for me.
I wish I could be there to see it..
Magazine Articles

ADM Elevator, 6 PM 30" x 36" - $18,000 - SOLD
There is a solid article by artist and teacher Mitchell Albala on the harmony of compliments illustrated with the above painting. A good short read for artists. You can read the magazine online, click here. The article is on page 70. Note, the online edition limits the number of pages you can read for free, so choose wisely! |
This article by Steve Doherty describes The Catalina Island Conservancy's "Wild Side" exhibit I mentioned in the last newsletter. There are artist interviews and some humorous commentary by collector Roy Rose. You can read the magazine online, click here. Unfortunately the online version does not include this article, unless you subscribe. |
