The Prismatic Palette - Plein Air
September 23 - 26, 2026
Wednesday - Saturday 9am - 4pm

This workshop will be held at the Franciscan Life Process Center, 11650 Downes St. Lowell, MI 49331
This 4-Day Plein Air Workshop will begin with a morning lecture highlighting how to freeze an effect of light and explain how color is affected prismatically by atmosphere and the angle of the sun. I will demonstrate in the afternoon to show how the principles are applied.
The remaining 3-days will be spent working from life outdoors. Students can expect to paint two paintings daily - one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Key factors such as rhythmic-connected drawing, underpainting, creating a profound sense of atmosphere and effectively using greens will be discussed.
Joe will work with you individually at your easel to address compositional and color issues and will provide careful critique. Note to students; Teaching is tailored to your level, so all levels are welcome. Joe’s only requirement is that you enter the class humble to nature and open to learn new information.
Experience: All levels however you must be familiar with the set up of your easel & palette.
Cost: $900
Note to students: Teaching is tailored to your level so all levels are welcome. My only requirement is that you enter the class humble to nature and open to new information.
